BSSC RACE 6 RACE REPORT

TT Circuit Assen - VMax Finale Races

Final Races Through Wind and Rain

Rain, wind, and sun largely determined the outcome of the first and only race of the weekend in Assen. A particularly severe accident during the Supercar Challenge race preceding the final BSSC race led to the decision to cancel the remainder of the event.

The damage, which spanned over 20 meters of guardrail and safety fencing, proved irreparable within the timeframe needed to ensure the final BSSC race could proceed safely. Series director Andy Jaenen of the BSSC will consult with the competent authority, the RACB, regarding the conclusion and points allocation for the exciting 2026 season.

In some classes and in the overall standings, the positions had not yet been definitively determined, and the titles were still up for grabs for various competitors.

In Race 1, the choice between slick and semi-slick tires proved to be the deciding factor between winners and losers. Four of the six class winners opted for dry-weather tires, even though the "Cathedral of Speed" was more than just damp.

The biggest loser in the first race was Karl-Heinz Chandeck. His BMW 140i got off to an excellent start but proved unable to hold onto the lead. After three laps, Raf Beliën—also driving a BMW—overtook him, followed by Jean-Paul Hulsebos and Kevin De Regt, both of whom also moved past the overall championship leader. De Regt, piloting his naturally aspirated BMW 130i, navigated the fast corners with greater ease; he went on to overtake both Hulsebos and Beliën to claim the victory. The overall podium featured three drivers from three different classes.

Chandeck ultimately finished in fourth place, allowing Hulsebos—driving a BMW 235i—to take the lead in the overall standings by a 3-point margin. Hulsebos therefore heads home as the leader following the weekend’s shortened schedule, pending a final decision from the BSSC Series organizers.

In Classes 3 and 2, the battle is far from over after this first race. Arno De Bruijn opted for semi-slick tires, a choice that worked well for his Toyota Yaris GR; he secured the win ahead of Ignace Van Den Broeck and Davy Van Goethem. A disappointed Van Goethem saw his Suzuki relegated to third place after exceeding track limits.

In Class 2, Tom Vanderheyden won a thrilling race—one in which contact between competitors was unavoidable. Driving on slick tires, he steered his Ford Fiesta to victory ahead of Niels Van Gompel in a BMW 123d and Geoffrey Van Kets in a BMW 325i.

Finally, Allard Gooshouwer was able to celebrate a class win in front of his home crowd. His decision to start on semi-slick tires was rewarded with a fine victory. Class 1 champion Emre Kahraman was forced to pull his Opel Kadett over to the side of the track due to a mechanical failure.
