Derde race weekend van het Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup kampioenschap werd gedomineerd door Michael De Rooy met zijn BMW e92 M3. Spannende races in de kleinere klassen kleurden een mooi weekend vol actie met nieuwe winnaars. 

Steven Maris nam met zijn BMW e36 M3 dan wel de start vanaf pole position van de eerste manche maar viel reeds in de eerste ronde uit door technische problemen. Dat maakte de baan vrij voor Michael De Rooy om naar een eerste overwinning in 2026 te rijden. Enkel de virtuele safety car momenten in races 1 en 2 bezorgden De Rooy wat kopzorgen. De M3 was dominant en enkel Olivier Meurens kon met de ex-Gabriele Tarquini WTCC Seat

Leon weerwerk bieden in Race 1. Steven Maris nam de tweede plek over van Meurens in Race 2 achter een controlerende De Rooy die zo een 2 op 2 winning score behaalde.

Door afwezigheid van de leider in het kampioenschap Kevin de Regt profiteerden enkele piloten om zich in het klassement omhoog te werken. Karl Chandeck en Johan Lambregs nemen na het Spa weekend de kop over van het kampioenschap door een derde plek en klasse overwinning te behalen in de eerste race. Een vijfde plaats in race 2 maakte de kloof met De Regt nog wat groter. 

Nederlander Jean-Paul Hulsebos speelde het weekend op safe door zich strikt aan de normtijden te houden en finishte tweemaal tweede achter “come back kid” Ruud Boffin.

Boffin amuseerde zich kostelijk met zijn BMW e36. De wagen geeft hem zoveel rijplezier en 2 overwinningen ! Door deze dubbele podiumplaatsen achter Boffin werkt Hulsebos zich op naar de tweede plaats op 2 punten van nieuwe leiders Chandeck/Lambregs.

In klasse 4 finishte Jimmy Verstraete met zijn Volkswagen Scirocco Cup derde in de tweede race voor een andere “come back kid” Vincent Convents.

Convents won in klasse 3 met zijn e90 BMW de tweede race na een spannende strijd met de Toyota Yaris GR van Arno De Bruijn. Ignace Van Den Broeck werd derde in zijn Renault Clio maar won wel een zeer spannende eerste race. Hij finishte daar als eerste met slechts 2 tienden/seconde voorsprong op de Toyota Yaris GR van Arno De Bruijn. De eerste 4 van de klasse 3 finishten de eerste wedstrijd binnen 2,5 seconde…

Tom Vanderheyden is er wel elke race bij, maar maakte een mega come back in race 1 na gestart te zijn vanop de laatste plaats na pech bij de kwalificaties. De Fiesta van Vanderheyden sneed als een warm mes door boter en kwam als tiende algemeen en winnaar in klasse 2 over de streep in de eerste race.

Ook de tweede wedstrijd schreef Tom op zijn naam en maakte hierdoor ook een stevige sprong in het kampioenschap naar de vijfde plaats. Hij heeft hetzelfde aantal punten als Jan Von Kiedrowski die met zijn BMW 240i twee vierde plaatsen behaalde.

In klasse 1 stond geen maat op de Opel Kadett van Emre Kahraman. Na zich telkens los te hebben gemaakt van BMW rijders Cedric Gerrits en Allard Gooshouwer stuurde hij de Kadett naar 2 sterke overwinningen in klasse 1. Gerrits en Gooshouwer strijdden beide hard en finishten beide elk op een tweede en derde plek.

De klasse overwinningen van Kahraman plaatsen de Opel Kadett rijder op een verrassende maar verdiende vierde plek in de tussenstand van het kampioenschap.

Spa Francorchamps - 25 Heures Fun Cup

The third race weekend of the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup championship was dominated by Michael De Rooy in his BMW E92 M3. Exciting races in the smaller classes highlighted a fantastic, action-packed weekend featuring new winners. 

Although Steven Maris started the first race from pole position in his BMW E36 M3, he retired on the very first lap due to technical issues. This cleared the way for Michael De Rooy to drive to his first victory of 2026. Only the Virtual Safety Car periods in Races 1 and 2 caused De Rooy any concern. The M3 was dominant, and only Olivier Meurens—driving the ex-Gabriele Tarquini WTCC SEAT León—was able to put up a fight in Race 1.

In Race 2, Steven Maris took second place from Meurens, finishing behind a commanding De Rooy, who thus achieved a perfect two-for-two winning record.

With championship leader Kevin de Regt absent, several drivers took the opportunity to climb the standings. Karl Chandeck and Johan Lambregs took over the championship lead following the Spa weekend, thanks to a third-place finish and a class victory in the first race. A fifth-place finish in race 2 further widened the gap to De Regt.

Dutch driver Jean-Paul Hulsebos played it safe over the weekend by strictly driving to the target lap times, finishing second twice behind "comeback kid" Ruud Boffin.

Boffin had a blast in his BMW E36; the car delivered both great driving pleasure and two victories. Thanks to these two podium finishes behind Boffin, Hulsebos moved up to second place, trailing the new championship leaders—Chandeck and Lambregs—by just two points.

In Class 4, Jimmy Verstraete finished third in the second race in his Volkswagen Scirocco Cup, ahead of another "comeback kid," Vincent Convents.

Convents won the second race in Class 3 with his BMW E90 after a thrilling battle with Arno De Bruijn’s Toyota Yaris GR. Ignace Van Den Broeck finished third in his Renault Clio but had won the highly exciting first race, crossing the line just two-tenths of a second ahead of De Bruijn’s Toyota Yaris GR. The top four in Class 3 finished the first race within a span of 2.5 seconds.

Tom Vanderheyden competes in every race, but he staged a massive comeback in race 1 after starting from the back of the grid due to bad luck in qualifying.

Vanderheyden’s Fiesta sliced ​​through the field like a hot knife through butter, crossing the finish line tenth overall and as the Class 2 winner in the first race.

Tom also won the second race, propelling himself up the championship standings to fifth place. He is tied on points with Jan Von Kiedrowski, who secured two fourth-place finishes in his BMW 240i.

In Class 1, Emre Kahraman’s Opel Kadett was in a league of its own. After repeatedly pulling away from BMW drivers Cedric Gerrits and Allard Gooshouwer, he steered his Kadett to two commanding Class 1 victories. Gerrits and Gooshouwer both battled hard, each claiming a second and a third-place finish.

Kahraman’s class wins place the Opel Kadett driver in a surprising yet well-deserved fourth position in the championship standings. 

The next races are scheduled for August 28–29 as part of the support program.
